Hữu Mười
Directing
Distinguished Artist Hữu Mười (full name Nguyễn Hữu Mười, b. 9 September, 1957) is an award-winning Vietnamese actor, director and performing arts educator. Discovered by veteran actor Phi Nga after abruptly applying in a National Theatre’s casting call, he later became one of the few 16 graduates of Hanoi University of Theatre and Performing Arts during the 70s. His breakthrough role came in 1982 when he was offered to play Teacher Thứ in Phạm Văn Khoa’s classic “Làng Vũ Đại Ngày Ấy”, an adaptation of Nam Cao’s famous stories; the role made Hữu Mười a household name in contemporary cinema. In 1984, the actor took on the role of Khang in Đặng Nhật Minh’s landmark film “When the Tenth Month Comes” and clinched the Best Actor award that same year at 7th Vietnam Film Festival. After the success of “When the Tenth Month Comes”, Hữu Mười received a scholarship to study directing in Soviet Union for 7 years. He began directing in the late 1990s, and occasionally collaborated with his classmate Vũ Đình Thân. His most successful work as a director is “Mùi cỏ cháy”(2012)
